Prof. Dr. Ozan Eruygur served as a Full Board Member at the Turkish Economic Association from December 2013 to February 2014.
The Turkish Economic Association's origins date back to the 1920s. Upon Atatürk's suggestion and encouragement, the National Economy and Savings Society was established on December 12, 1929. Among the founders of the society were state and political figures of the time, such as Kazım Özalp, Hasan Saka, Celal Bayar, Saffet Arıkan, Fuat Omay, Rahmi Köken, Hakkı S. Tarı, Mahmut Soydan, and Yusuf K. Tengirşek.
The purpose of establishing the society was to minimize the devastating effects of the 1929 Great Depression by promoting savings through combating waste and encouraging the promotion and use of domestic products. The society's name was changed to the National Economy and Saving Organization on June 12, 1939.
The Turkish Economic Association, which was established in Istanbul in 1931 and moved its headquarters to Ankara in 1939, merged with the National Economy and Promotion Organization on January 18, 1955, under the name of the Turkish Economic Association.
